Demand for Jungle Tech's Shade Coffee Grows Tremendously!
Jungle Tech\'s Cafe Selvanica, which is 100% shade grown, is now sold out for the next 5 years! One of the Selvanica growers within the community, Manual Cuchanaupu, won the cupping competition of the entire state of San Martin, which helped give credit to the Selvanica growers shade grown approach. To celebrate the last harvest, another NWSCC member, Fidalgo Bay Coffee Co. visited the Selvanica farmers. Thanks to both of these companies for their tremendous commitment to shade coffee.

In addition to the Cafe Selvanica, Jungle Tech has also had tremendous
demand for another of its 100% shade coffee offerings, the Caf?Inkaico. At this point almost 300 farmers from 12 different villages have partnered with Jungle Tech in providing this coffee, which has been particularly important to the local farmers in an area of Peru where the alternative crop is coca. It is essential these areas remain in shade coffee production, as the alternative would result in massive deforestation. Congratulations to Jungle Tech for their great shade coffees!

Northwest Shade Coffee Campaign Reaches Out to Gardeners
The NWSCC participated in the 2003 Northwest Flower and Garden Show in downtown Seattle reaching an audience of over 50,000 people with the message of shade coffee. This was a great opportunity for the campaign to reach out to a new audience, as we drew the connection between backyard birds and shade grown coffee for gardeners ranging from beginners to professionals. The event drew a crowd from all over the Pacific Northwest, and we hope to continue to share the shade coffee message with gardeners throughout the region.
